AUSTRIA & JORDAN NIGHT | EUROASIA SHORTS FILM FEST

ABOUT THE FESTIVAL

Join the international cinematic dialogue that is uniquely Washingtonian as we celebrate 17 years of EuroAsia Shorts (EAS)! This film festival presents a selection of short films from Europe, Asia, and the United States screened at embassies and cultural centers throughout Washington, D.C. between June 7 - 23, 2023. Please find a full list of festival events and films here.

This year, EAS events are spread over a 3-week period, with two programs each week between June 7 and 23. The first five pairing events—each a blending of short films from two countries as a cinematic conversation—will take place on June 7, 9, 15, 16, and 22, each at different venues across Washington, D.C. The traditional closing event, featuring extra short films from all 10 partner countries, takes place on the final day, Friday, June 23.

ABOUT THE FILMS

Tala'vision

Jordan, 2020, 27 min.

Director: Murad Abu Eisheh

Trapped in a war-ridden reality, 8-year-old Tala finds solace and freedom in a forbidden television. However, the secret TV becomes a matter of life and death.

Cornetto im Gras

Austria, 2023, 29 min.

Director: David Lapuch

Richard, a young man who leads a fairly ordinary village life, takes care of his grandfather and a sausage stand at the village sports field. Within just one evening, Richard’s life becomes unhinged, and he finds out that within every ending is a new beginning. Winner for best short fiction film at Diagonale - Festival of Austrian Film.

Du Hund Du

Austria, 2022, 12 min.

Director: Benjamin Laabmayr

The village swimming pool as a place of everyday bizarreness. A boy diving for batteries or children deciding the future of their parents by means of tarot cards—these are examples of short scenes that sometimes continue to spin. The director leaves everything mostly ambiguous: Is it about alienation or observation? Are the characters being exhibited or portrayed? Is it a matter of staging or documentation?
