The ACF Washington was delighted to present a concert by the young Austrian classical duo Marilies and Nikolaus Guschlbauer. Having played together since their childhood, the musical siblings managed to establish a great harmony and sensitivity in their sound together as a duo. At the ACF Washington, they presented a musical homage to their home country with pieces by Ludwig van Beethoven, Franz Schubert and Johannes Brahms.

ABOUT THE DUO GUSCHLBAUER

The young cellist Marilies Guschlbauer has performed internationally at the Festspiele Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the Verbier Festival, the Cello Biennale Amsterdam, the Salzburg Chamber Music Festival, the City of London Festival, the Classic Festival Bad Ragaz, and many others. She has performed in renowned concert venues including the Mozarteum Salzburg, Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City, the Forbidden City Concert Hall in Beijing and the EXPO Shanghai. She has received the Prima La Musica young musician competition award six times, and won numerous prizes (ESTA-Prize 2010, Josef Messner Scholarship 2010, INÖK-Sonderpreis i.a.). Marilies has also been a successful prizewinner at the Manhattan International Music Competition and the International Cello Competition Liezen.
Nikolaus Guschlbauer started playing the piano at an early age and developed a great passion for chamber music over the years. He made his debut at the Wiener Konzerthaus in 2009 and was re-invited to perform at the anniversary event 100 years Wiener Konzerthaus in 2012. Nikolaus has won numerous first prizes at the Prima La Musica young musician competition in Austria and was amongst the finalists of the international Osaka competition as a laureate at the international competition Rome 2012. In Austria, he performed at the Mozarteum Salzburg, the Schloss Esterhazy, Festspielhaus St. Pölten, Brucknerhaus Linz and Lisztzentrum Raiding, amongst others. The European Piano Program offered Nikolaus the chance to perform in countries such as Poland, Macedonia and Moldavia. Together with his sister Marilies, they won the chamber music competition ON-Stage 2018.
