The Austrian Cultural Forum Washington cordially invites you to a talk between Florian Raditsch, currently Austrian Artist in Residence in Washington DC at STABLE Arts, and art historian Dr. Grace Yasumura, the inaugural Luce Foundation Curatorial fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

Learn about Florian's work and his residency in DC which focused mainly on immigrant artists, such as Austrian Herbert Bayer, who worked under the WPA (Works Project Administration). Grace Yasumura will give a brief overview of the history of the WPA as well as the Federal Project Number One and their significance in art history and American society.

Parking on International Court is available after 6:30 pm (for the duration of the event) or on 36th Street; access to the Embassy through the park behind the building.

FLORIAN RADITSCH

Florian Raditsch was born in 1987 in central California and grew up near Yosemite National Park. He later studied fine arts in New Mexico and at the University of Applied Arts Vienna. In his work, the artist deals with cultural and socio-political issues. Raditsch lives and works in Vienna.


GRACE YASUMURA

Grace Yasumura is the inaugural Luce Foundation Curatorial fellow at the Smithsonian American Art Museum, where she supports the development of an exhibition that considers the intertwined histories of race and American sculpture. She is also the project manager for Contemporary Monuments to the Slave Past, a digital archive founded by Dr. Renée Ater, which investigates how we visualize, interpret, and engage the slave past through contemporary monuments created for public spaces. She earned her Ph.D. in Art History and Archaeology from the University of Maryland in 2019. Her dissertation examined the entangled histories of race, labor, and citizenship in New Deal post office murals. She also holds a B.A. in Peace and Justice Studies from Wellesley College and an M.A. in Art History from New York University.
