Austrian music has more to offer than Mozart, Haydn and Schubert: On April 17, we presented to you another representative of the incredibly dynamic and diverse, young (female) Austrian music scene, the talented and inspiring rapper, singer and poet Yasmin Hafedh (a.k.a. Yasmo).
The ACF Washington was delighted to partner again with the non-profit organization Words Beats & Life and organize a unique event, filled with spoken word poetry and rap music. The young Austrian rapper and slam poet Yasmo joined forces with local youth poets and rappers from Words Beats & Life and they performed a juxtaposition of German and English lyrics mixed with electronic beats!

ABOUT YASMO
Yasmin Hafedh a.k.a. Yasmo is an Austrian performing poet and rapper. She started out as a poetry slammer but in the past couple of years, she has built up a reputation as one of Europe’s most complex and interesting female MCs. Her second solo album, „Kein Platz für Zweifel“, released in 2013, brought her new fans and a lot of airplay. Countless appearances as a spoken word poet, rapper, talk show guest as well as host and (occasionally as) actress followed. Since 2015, she started surrounding herself with a jazz ensemble/big band and they became Yasmo & the Klangkantine. The band gained with their debut album not only Austria-wide media attention and numerous live performances, but also a nomination for the Austrian music award "Amadeus". Yasmo is known, not to mince her words and that she does not shy away from addressing society’s most pressing issues: migration, feminism and racism.
